TAKE UP AND DISPOSAL FLOORING REMOVAL

FLOORING REMOVAL SERVICE

Pulling up an old floor is the messiest part of any renovation, and the part most people underestimate. Carpet comes up easily enough; the tack strips, staples and glued underlay beneath it do not. Tiles need breaking out. Bonded timber has to be prised off and the adhesive dealt with afterwards. Then there is the question of where several tonnes of it goes.

We handle all of it — take up, load out and disposal — and hand back a bare, swept slab ready for preparation. Because we are a floor preparation company, we remove floors the way the next trade needs them removed: without gouging the slab, without leaving adhesive ridges that make levelling more expensive, and without damaging skirtings or door frames you intend to keep.

What It Costs

Every job is priced per square metre after a site assessment, and the quote covers both removal and disposal — there are no separate tip fees afterwards.

What moves the price:

  • The floor covering — carpet lifts in strips; glued tiles have to be broken out piece by piece
  • How it was fixed — floating floors come up fast, direct-stick is slow
  • Area — larger jobs cost less per square metre
  • Access — ground floor with a driveway is very different from level nine with one lift and a loading dock booking
  • Waste volume — tiles and screed are heavy, and tip fees are charged by weight
  • Whether adhesive removal is included — often better handled as diamond grinding

PROCESS

  1. Site Assessment and Quote:
    We look at what is down, how it is fixed, how much there is and how we get it out of the building. You get a fixed price covering removal and disposal — no surprise tip fees afterwards.
  2. Protection and Set-Up:
    We protect the areas we carry material through: hallways, lift interiors, stairwells and common areas. In strata buildings we work to the building's access rules and booked hours.
  3. Take Up:
    The covering comes up along with everything under it — underlay, tack strips, staples, adhesive beds. We work in a way that protects the slab beneath, because we are the ones who have to prepare it next.

  1. Load Out:
    Material is bagged or bundled and removed from site the same day wherever possible. Nothing is left stacked in a corridor or on a balcony.
  2. Disposal:
    Waste goes to a licensed resource recovery facility, sorted so that recyclable material is recovered rather than landfilled.
  3. Clean Slab Handover:
    We vacuum the exposed slab and walk it with you, flagging anything that will need attention before the new floor goes down — adhesive residue, cracks, high spots or moisture.

ASBESTOS IN OLDER FLOORS

If your property was built or renovated before the late 1980s, the floor covering may contain asbestos. Vinyl floor tiles, the backing on sheet vinyl and some older adhesives are the usual culprits, and they are not something to guess about.

We do not remove asbestos-containing materials. If we suspect asbestos during assessment, we stop and recommend testing by a licensed assessor. Once the material has been cleared, or removed by a licensed contractor, we complete the rest of the job.

FAQ

A typical two-bedroom unit of carpet is usually half a day. Glued tiles over the same area can take two days or more, because the adhesive bed has to come off as well as the tile.

Usually yes, though tile removal is loud and dusty and most clients prefer to be out for that. We seal off the work area from the rest of the property.

We take it. Removal and disposal are included in the quoted price, and material is taken to a licensed resource recovery facility. You do not need to arrange a skip.

Tile removal leaves adhesive residue and some surface scarring, which is normal and expected. It is why diamond grinding follows removal, and why sub-floor levelling follows grinding. Removal, grinding and levelling are three parts of one job, and we do all three.
